Goal

I’ve enjoyed writing almost every day for 25 years, and I want to write more.

My fun writing includes blog posts, short stories, and novels. My work writing includes technical writing, articles, and grant proposals. Each type of writing has improved my skills with the others, which makes me enjoy it more.

When I work with a client, three issues matter most:

  1. What you want
  2. What I’ve learned about effective writing
  3. Reaching deadlines

I’ll expand on each. The first item means I ask many questions to make sure I understand what you want. I’ll also give you drafts to review. The second item includes the mechanics of writing, like grammar, brevity, and applying any style manual. The third item means that I will offer a project schedule soon after we start working together. Meeting deadlines early in a project makes it a lot easier to meet the final deadline.

In my day-job, I sell outdoor gear at REI. I enjoy that too. In my first year at REI, my performance review stated I was a “Top Performer.” In my second year, I was a candidate for an award that highlights the work of one staff member. I’m looking forward to more years at REI and combining that with freelance writing.

Thanks for stopping by. I hope we have a chance to work together.
